Odaily News: New York federal district judge Alvin Hellerstein has denied the joint motion by Gemini and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to vacate a $5 million settlement agreement. Gemini and the CFTC had argued in May that the settlement reached in January 2025 violated fundamental principles of fair enforcement; the judge ruled that these grounds were insufficient to support vacating the settlement, noting that Gemini voluntarily signed the agreement three weeks before trial.

Odaily News: Decentralized social network Farcaster has changed hands for the second time this year. Balaji Srinivasan's Network School has acquired Farcaster from Neynar, with the transaction amount not yet disclosed. Neynar co-founder Rish stated that after evaluating multiple acquisition offers, the company decided to transfer the Farcaster app, protocol codebase, and related products to Network School, as Farcaster requires a different operational model for its next phase. Rish and fellow co-founder Manan will be leaving, while the remaining Neynar employees will join Network School to continue developing Farcaster. Neynar acquired the platform from Farcaster's original developer Merkle Manufactory in January of this year, with the deal also including token issuance platform Clanker. Rish did not disclose the future plans for Clanker; GM Farcaster hosts Adrienne and NourishProf stated that Rish is considering spinning off Clanker and seeking other buyers for it. An in-app announcement on Farcaster indicates that the platform will be renamed "Network State Protocol," with the goal of building a network of voluntary digital societies that will eventually materialize in the real world. Users must choose to accept or reject a "social smart contract," and those who accept will receive an on-chain access NFT as proof.

Odaily reports: Bitcoin News posted on X that Citizen Lab researchers have discovered the first publicly documented case of mercenary spyware being delivered through targeted online advertising, in which malicious code can initiate infection once an ad loads, without the user needing to click or download anything. The campaign is called "AdFection." At least 45 Al Jazeera devices were targeted between 2024 and 2025, and the operation has been linked to Israeli advertising company Discover-Tech and spyware vendor Candiru.
After analyzing approximately 4 billion ad bidding records, researchers found that Discover-Tech's ads had appeared on nearly 200,000 websites and apps worldwide, but ad exposure does not necessarily lead to infection. Discover-Tech previously conducted business through major ad networks, including Google, and was removed after the investigation.
Odaily News: Solana ecosystem development company Anza stated that the Alpenglow mainnet beta will activate on October 21, 2026, at 14:50 UTC. Once the upgrade is complete, transaction finality is expected to be reduced from approximately 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds.
Alpenglow will replace the existing TowerBFT voting mechanism with Votor, allowing validators to avoid writing every vote on-chain and instead confirm consensus through direct communication aggregated into smaller records. The network is expected to maintain the existing system for approximately 18 minutes before switching to Votor once staked SOL reaches 82% of the validator set.
Another component of Alpenglow, Rotor, will adjust how new blocks are distributed among validators, but no activation date has been announced yet. This upgrade includes only Votor, and Solana will temporarily focus on replacing its consensus mechanism. (Bitcoin.com News)

Odaily News: Investor Bastion Trading has stated that it will not participate in SkyAI's proposed $201 million tender offer unless SkyAI addresses governance, disclosure, and pricing issues. Bastion Trading and its affiliates collectively hold approximately 9.99% of SkyAI's common stock. SkyAI plans to acquire up to 95% of its outstanding shares and eligible warrants at $3 per share.
Bastion Trading is questioning the scale of SkyAI's sale of approximately 70% of its SOL treasury assets. SkyAI previously claimed to have sold about 1 million SOL, but subsequent regulatory filings showed it had only about 600,000 SOL remaining. Bastion Trading is demanding disclosure of the sale timing, average transaction prices, proceeds, transaction costs, and approval processes, as well as an independent review before the tender offer begins.
Bastion Trading is also demanding the replacement of SkyAI board members, the establishment of an independent special committee to oversee the tender offer process, and a price increase to at least $3.50 per share. It is also calling for the removal of the $100 SOL price condition and the 50% minimum participation threshold, the exclusion of strategic advisor warrants, and a prohibition on insiders tendering their securities. Odaily reports — In the theft incident involving crypto hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger, one of the biggest victims was also a scammer, who lost over 60 BTC worth approximately $4.8 million. The funds in question came from a task scam: participants were hired to fake sales and reviews for real products. A "negative balance" then appeared, and participants were told they had to put in their own funds in order to get paid. On September 22, the operator behind the scam transferred the proceeds to 3 separate Ledger addresses. On October 9, thieves emptied these 3 addresses, each transferring funds to the same wallet via a single transaction. The receiving wallet has been reported as being involved with stolen funds.
Odaily reports that Sweden's central bank (Riksbank) has recommended that lawmakers prepare relevant legislation for the possible launch of a digital krona, citing reasons including the European Central Bank's (ECB) advancement of the digital euro and the increasing use of foreign currency stablecoins. In a letter to the parliament's finance committee on October 7, the bank stated that the ECB plans to conduct a digital euro pilot in 2027 and may launch it to the public in 2029.
The Riksbank pointed out that if the payment system lacks a digital version of the national currency, its competitiveness could be affected. The bank believes that foreign currency stablecoins, such as those pegged to the US dollar, being widely used for payments within Sweden could put pressure on the use of the Swedish krona, though short-term risks are limited. The Riksbank estimates that launching the digital krona will take at least five years, not including the time required for legislative changes. (Cointelegraph)
Odaily News: The Brazilian Securities Commission (CVM) has issued Resolution No. 249, launching a tokenized securities pilot program to test the simulation of stock trading and securities issuance, operation, and management on blockchain networks. The project will be conducted in a controlled environment, using stocks and funds that are specially created simulated assets, with no real financial risk involved.
The project will compare the advantages and disadvantages of public chains versus private chains for securities business, and assess risks including cybersecurity, smart contracts, interoperability, and network resilience. Blockchain networks participating in the pilot must encode market rules into smart contracts, ensure privacy in securities operations, and remain subject to regulatory audits.
The CVM will also use AI tools to assist with market monitoring. Brazil's largest stock exchange, B3, is building a tokenization platform, planned for launch in 2027, which will use a proprietary stablecoin. Initially, it will not offer 24/7 trading and will integrate liquidity pools from both digital assets and traditional markets. (Bitcoin.com News)
