Odaily reports: BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes said on the Convergence program on October 16 that OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceX are all unprofitable, and that AI model companies rely on debt financing, equity financing, and implicit support from the U.S. government.
The Nasdaq 100 index fell 2.5%, and chip stocks declined for an eighth consecutive day, marking the longest losing streak since 2008. On October 17, Bitcoin's price was close to $81,400. A Bank of America analyst said the $1 trillion AI investment boom may follow a typical boom-and-bust cycle.
Hayes believes that the bigger the AI bubble, the larger the subsequent bailout will be, and the higher Bitcoin's price will go. He also said Bitcoin can reflect wasted capital. He also criticized token issuance methods, saying that retail investors who bought at TGE and then suffered a 95% drop were the ones who got hurt. (Bitcoin.com News)
Odaily: Hamad Hussain, climate and commodities economist at Capital Economics, judged on October 16 that gold prices may gradually decline over the remainder of the year. He listed two reasons: the Fed continuing to raise rates, and concerns that the AI boom is ending ultimately proving to be only temporary. This means his view on gold prices involves both interest rates and the outlook for the AI boom.
Bart Melek, Global Head of Commodity Strategy at TD Securities, said gold remains within a range and is leaning toward the lower edge of its support zone, mainly because there is still significant uncertainty over the Fed's next move. (Jinshi)

Odaily — On October 17, JustLend DAO announced that, in accordance with the JST buyback and burn plan proposal formally approved by the community, it successfully completed the fifth $JST buyback and burn on October 16, 2026 (SGT). A total of 170,723,144 JST was burned in this round, and all relevant tokens have been transferred to the black hole address, with all transactions verifiable on-chain. This buyback and burn marks an important step in JustLend DAO's continued advancement of its deflationary mechanism and implementation of community governance resolutions. By reducing the circulating supply of JST, it further strengthens the token's value support and the ecosystem's long-term sustainability. From community proposal to on-chain execution, the entire process has been open and transparent, providing a verifiable governance model for the continued advancement of the buyback and burn mechanism going forward.
Odaily reports: Paradis posted on X platform that BofA believes the recent pullback in memory stocks has little correlation with memory fundamentals, reflecting excessive market concerns over the boom-and-bust cycle of AI memory. BofA expects the global total memory addressable market to grow from nearly $1 trillion in 2026 to over $2 trillion by 2030, with operating profit potentially reaching $1 trillion and industry market cap potentially reaching $10 trillion, compared to just a few trillion dollars currently.
Odaily reports: According to a CNBC interview clip shared by Coin Bureau, Fundstrat co-founder Tom Lee stated that crypto, chip stocks, and AI cloud computing companies have all retraced to support levels; if fundamentals remain solid, these assets are like "coiled springs ready to launch."
Tom Lee believes that with fundamentals intact while market panic sentiment is rising, these assets offer a relatively attractive risk-reward ratio.
Odaily reports that DTCC's tokenization service has initially made available 25 tokenizable securities, with the underlying assets being DTC-custodied securities worth approximately $30 trillion. The tokens maintain a 1:1 correspondence with the original securities, use the same CUSIP, and carry rights and investor protections identical to book-entry securities, with the official ledger records still held by DTC. Transfers between registered DTC wallets can be made 24/7 on a peer-to-peer basis, and the tokens have compliance-based transfer restrictions. Interest payments and maturity services for U.S. Treasury securities will be conducted on-chain, with funds paid in fiat currency to participants' traditional accounts.
The initially supported assets include Russell 1000 constituent stocks, select ETFs, and U.S. Treasury securities; the first networks to go live are Canton Network's CIP-56 and DTCC's private Besu network's ERC-20. Stellar's SEP-41 and Circle's Arc ERC-20 are expected to be integrated in 2027. The subsequent roadmap includes expanding the scope of tokenizable securities, adding control features such as single sign-on and maker-checker, extending corporate actions services for stocks and ETFs, consolidating share records between book-entry and on-chain holdings, and supporting on-chain net settlement, collateral, and digital cash, while gradually expanding the scope of eligible DTC participants.
Odaily: Solana app revenue grew 48% quarter-over-quarter to $299 million in Q3 2026, marking a new high since Q3 2025. Quarterly trading volume of tokenized stocks hit a record $7.1 billion, with September alone reaching $4.4 billion in trading volume, an all-time high. Spot DEX trading volume came in at $197.2 billion, accounting for 36% of cross-chain spot trading volume and remaining above 30% for the ninth consecutive quarter; on-chain transactions processed this quarter reached a record 14.2 billion, equivalent to approximately 1,790 per second.
Odaily reports: Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark said on Saturday that AI capabilities are rapidly improving and will bring faster changes across various sectors. An internal economic model from the company predicts that by 2030, AI could drive US economic output to grow dramatically to $44 trillion. Speaking at the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, Clark said the international community needs to work together to establish "special and rigorous rules" for this transformative technology. Clark said the forecast of US GDP reaching $44 trillion "sounds very absurd" compared to the current level of just above $30 trillion, but AI is significantly accelerating scientific discovery. "As long as this technology continues to advance, such an outcome may emerge. If GDP really grows by that much, then according to economic theory, new industries and inventions will need to be created to provide the impetus for such a large-scale economic expansion." (Jinshi)

Odaily reports: European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde stated that the eurozone's September inflation rate stood at 3.8%, primarily driven by high energy costs, and the ECB expects related pressures to ease next year.
She noted that the energy shock may keep eurozone inflation above the ECB's target through the first half of 2027, but a prudent policy response remains appropriate at this time.
Christine Lagarde said the ECB is preparing a digital euro for everyday retail payments as a digital complement to cash. She noted that the digital euro will further promote innovation and competition in the retail payments sector.
The ECB has launched Pontes, allowing financial institutions to settle wholesale tokenized asset transactions using central bank money; the system initially offers core services and is expected to be fully implemented by 2028. (Cointelegraph)

Odaily reports: Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev penned an article reflecting on the company's rebuilding journey after going public. He disclosed that after the stock price plummeted, he decided to cut staff, streamline management layers, and delegate decision-making authority to individual business leaders. On the business front, Robinhood has strengthened services for active traders on one hand, while expanding products such as high-yield accounts, retirement accounts, banking and wealth management services, and credit cards on the other, using services like Robinhood Gold to increase recurring revenue and reduce reliance on speculative trading enthusiasm.
Vlad Tenev disclosed data showing that Robinhood achieved GAAP profitability by the end of 2023, reached $4.5 billion in revenue in 2025—a year-over-year increase of over 50%—surpassed $100 billion in market capitalization, and was included in the S&P 500 index; in the second quarter of 2026, revenue exceeded $1.3 billion, net profit surpassed $573 million, and platform customer assets exceeded $350 billion.
Odaily: Recently disclosed U.S. federal court documents show that Telegram provided personal information of specific users to U.S. law enforcement after receiving valid legal requests.
The documents show that the information Telegram provided in September 2026 included users' phone numbers, user IDs, account display names, and last login IP addresses and timestamps. Telegram stated that this data provision was voluntary, does not represent its acknowledgment of being subject to U.S. jurisdiction, and did not disclose chat content or contact information.
It is reported that Telegram adjusted its privacy policy in September 2024, allowing it to disclose users' IP addresses and phone numbers to judicial authorities when relevant conditions are met. Throughout 2024, Telegram responded to approximately 900 U.S. law enforcement requests involving 2,253 users. (404 Media)
Odaily Report: In under 30 minutes, the AI model Claude cracked a puzzle that had baffled the cryptography community for roughly 25 years regarding the origins of the US National Security Agency's (NSA) elliptic curve parameters, tracing the elliptic curve seeds adopted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 2000 back to an older random number generation program used between 1997 and 1998.
Claude found that five sets of NIST elliptic curve seeds were related to the lrand48 random number generator in an older C language software library, and among the 1,842nd candidate result, it found a value that exactly matched the seed of the widely used P-256 curve, successfully reproducing its generation process.
Previously, because the NSA had long failed to explain the source of the relevant parameters, there had been persistent suspicions that an encryption backdoor might exist. Anthropic stated that this discovery greatly reduces the likelihood that the relevant parameters were deliberately implanted with weaknesses, and that existing NIST elliptic curve users need not take additional measures.
In addition, Bitcoin uses a different elliptic curve, secp256k1, and is not affected by this incident. The related research bounty of $36,864 will be donated to the Internet Security Research Group, the nonprofit behind Let's Encrypt.
