Odaily News: Cosine disclosed the interim investigation reports by SlowMist and Google Cloud's Mandiant on the Bitget hot wallet breach. Both reports indicate that the attackers first compromised systems related to third-party security products, then moved laterally into Bitget's wallet business environment.
SlowMist's investigation revealed that one of the third-party security product nodes had a zero-day vulnerability, with related malicious activity traced back to as early as August 31. On September 25, the attackers also used an internal employee identity to access the management platform of another third-party security product and used highly customized withdrawal tools to interact with the wallet system's withdrawal logic. Mandiant stated that after gaining persistent access through third-party security devices, the attackers moved laterally to production wallet task servers and deployed malicious programs.
Mandiant also stated that no evidence of Bitget private key leakage has been found so far, and cold wallets were not affected. Both security teams are continuing to investigate the specific intrusion paths the attackers took between the relevant systems.
Odaily reports that Arthur Hayes stated during Korea Blockchain Week (KBW) that he expects the ETH price to reach $10,000 by the end of this year. ETH is currently trading at around $2,672. (CoinDesk)
Odaily News: The Illinois Department of Revenue has released draft rules for the already-legislated 0.2% digital asset transaction tax, clarifying that stablecoins will be considered taxable digital assets, while non-fungible tokens are not within the scope of taxation.
The draft stipulates that DeFi transactions are generally exempt; however, fees paid by users that are deemed "valuable consideration," such as protocol fees used to operate or maintain a platform, may trigger taxation. Network fees and swap fees paid solely to liquidity providers do not trigger the tax.
Cross-chain bridging conducted through digital asset brokers with consideration paid will be treated as a taxable exchange activity. When a centralized exchange transfers funds to a self-custodial wallet, if the exchange charges a fee, it may also be subject to taxation.
The tax law was approved in June and is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027. The Illinois Department of Revenue is soliciting public comments on the draft, with a deadline of October 30. (Cointelegraph)
Odaily reports: Solana ecosystem tokenization platform Metaplex has announced the launch of MPL-3643, a new standard for permissioned real-world assets and tokenized securities on Solana, enabling issuers to issue assets directly on Solana without the need for a wrapped asset model.
The standard embeds transfer restrictions, lock-up periods, and compliance lifecycle management into assets, and is built on Token-2022, sRFC 37, and Solana Attestation Service. MPL-3643 has now entered a limited-access Alpha phase.
According to Gate data, the USD/JPY (USDJPY) briefly rebounded to 157.0, currently at 157.001, with a 24-hour decline of 0.3%.
Odaily reports: According to monitoring by Yu Jin, Bitget has entered its third day since opening withdrawals. The peak withdrawal period has now passed, and combined with stablecoin fixed-yield offerings and PoolX ETH and BTC locked staking mining campaigns, the platform's funds have shifted to net inflow.
Among these, ETH has seen approximately 28,900 ETH inflow and approximately 7,266 ETH outflow since withdrawals opened yesterday afternoon. The largest deposit address retrieved 20,000 ETH from Lido last night and transferred it to Bitget, worth approximately $54.66 million, to participate in the ETH pool's 11.27% APR campaign.
Additionally, data shows that Bitget's net deposits for the full day yesterday were approximately $9.47 million, with net deposits of approximately $31.73 million from 0:00 to 8:00 today.
Odaily reports that a new address withdrew 5,731.90 ETH from Coinbase Prime, valued at approximately $15.31 million. As of press time, all the ETH received by this address remains held, with no outbound transfers initiated yet.
Odaily News: The hype around $SI started from the news that Trump will rename "Artificial Intelligence (AI)" to "Super Intelligence (SI)." In a related speech, Trump stated, "I will sign a very strong executive order." Subsequently, an account claimed that the White House has confirmed it will not recognize the usage of "Artificial Intelligence" and "AI," but the materials do not show that this claim has been further clarified by official documents.
This narrative was quickly mapped by the crypto community to the token $SI. On September 29, the related account said $SI surpassed $20 million in market capitalization, and today its on-chain market cap surpassed $50 million.
Odaily News: Aave's current core expansion direction is to gradually extend collateralized lending from crypto assets to securities and more productive real-world assets. Related discussions mention that Aave V4 has launched tokenized stock lending on Base, initially supporting 7 U.S. stocks, allowing users to borrow USDC against their stock holdings without having to sell their positions directly.
Aave founder Stani divides the potential market into three stages: Crypto, Securities, and Abundance Assets. Future plans include covering assets such as solar energy, batteries, GPUs, robotics, and even space infrastructure, providing financing for these productive assets that can drive an "abundant society." Around this direction, some views suggest that Aave's long-term narrative has been planned out to 2050, with the scope of collateral expanding from crypto assets to securities, and then into the realm of real-world assets.
On the token mechanism side, AAVE currently mainly employs a buyback mechanism, but the related buybacks have been halted for a considerable period. Some views suggest that Aave Tokenomics 3.0 will consider incorporating a burn mechanism. As for whether these plans can be implemented, and whether market participants will allocate AAVE accordingly, it still depends on individual choices.
Odaily News: OpenAI has announced the launch of GPT-6.1 Sol, which the company says delivers performance "close" to GPT-6 Astra, with standard API pricing at roughly one-fifth of Astra's.
Sol is currently available for ChatGPT Work, Codex, and the API, while general Chat conversations are not yet supported. Its context window is approximately 1.05 million tokens. OpenAI also stated that this week, API prices for GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna will be uniformly reduced by about 50%. Tibo explained that as model efficiency improves, fewer credits can theoretically accomplish a similar amount of work, and promised that the previous 5-hour limit will not be reintroduced. However, there is currently no empirical data comparing the old and new plans. Regarding subscription benefits, some users claim that GPT-6 Astra credits will be halved, while others suggest that given the price cuts for Sol and Luna, the actual change when using these two models does not amount to a reduction in credits.
Previously, after Anthropic released Claude Sonnet 5.5, users began comparing usage allowances and pricing advantages across different plans. Some users estimated that with the $200 plan, the credits available when using Sonnet 5.5 could reach several times that of the corresponding GPT plan.
OpenAI is still advancing products based on GPT-6 Astra, including a continuously running agent feature called "dots," where each agent has an independent cloud computer and can handle tasks around the clock. This feature is being offered to Pro, Business Premium, and Enterprise users.
Odaily reports: Bitget stated on X platform that an investigation by Google Cloud's Mandiant into Bitget's September 24 security incident found that attackers gained unauthorized access to certain third-party security devices, then laterally moved into Bitget's exchange wallet environment and obtained access to both warm and hot wallets. The investigation findings are consistent with the attack path previously disclosed by Bitget.
Odaily News — SlowMist security team has disclosed preliminary investigation findings on the September 25 theft of assets from Bitget's hot wallet. The investigation found that the attack involved certain third-party security products and wallet application hosts, with a zero-day vulnerability present in one of the third-party products. The attacker also gained unauthorized access to a third-party product management platform by impersonating an internal employee.
SlowMist stated that the team has obtained the custom withdrawal tool used by the attacker to interact with the wallet system's withdrawal logic. On-chain attack activity began at 2:31 on September 25, lasted approximately 2 hours and 52 minutes, and involved multiple blockchains. The attacker subsequently attempted to tamper with withdrawal records and trigger additional BTC withdrawals. The team is still investigating how the attacker moved laterally between the affected systems.
