6 investments that returned more than principal came from the crypto sector, while Linda Xie's highest paper return on angel investments over the past 10 years came from an AI company
Odaily reports: Linda Xie, co-founder of Scalar Capital and former Coinbase product lead, reviewed her personal angel investments over the past 10 years: she has invested in a total of 50 companies, of which 60% are in the crypto sector, 10% in AI, and the rest across other industries. Six investments have returned more than the initial outlay, all from the crypto sector, including 5 token warrant investments and 1 equity investment, but no single investment's return has covered the entire portfolio's outlay; the highest paper return rate comes from an AI company, and if realized, its return could theoretically cover the entire portfolio's outlay. Another 12 companies have officially shut down or exited through acquihires, of which 7 investments returned zero, 4 recovered 80% to 90% of the initial outlay, and 1 outcome is pending. The above statistics cover only her personal equity investments and do not include her fund or directly held crypto assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.
