Tether Paid Over $6 Million to Firm Tied to Former White House Crypto Adviser, Raising Conflict-of-Interest Concerns
Odaily Report: While former White House crypto adviser Bo Hines was pushing the GENIUS Act, Nxum, a consulting firm he co-founded and held equity in, established a business relationship with Tether. Tether paid Nxum more than $6 million, which was distributed among three partners. Although Hines withdrew from day-to-day operations, he still discussed the bill with partners via Signal during his tenure. After the bill was signed into law in July 2025, Hines departed in August and was appointed in September as CEO of Tether's U.S. stablecoin business, with the related dealings raising questions of potential conflicts of interest.
