Ethereum's Glamsterdam Upgrade Identifies 8 Potential Risks, Hoodi Testnet Fork Postponed
Odaily reports: The Ethereum Foundation has announced that security firm ChainSecurity recently discovered that certain invariants relied upon by some projects may become invalid after the Glamsterdam upgrade, involving adjustments to Gas costs for certain operations and state Gas accounting methods under EIP-8037 and EIP-8038. In response, the Ethereum All Core Developers (ACD) meeting decided to postpone the hard fork process and will not launch the fork on the Hoodi testnet for now, until the relevant issues are resolved.
The Ethereum Foundation added that it is currently working with multiple audit firms to conduct reviews and carrying out internal audits, but cannot cover the on-chain and off-chain code of all projects. Therefore, it calls on contract developers and auditors to check whether their projects depend on the relevant 8 invariants. A dedicated GitHub repository has been created for this purpose, providing invariant descriptions, examples, and prompts that can be used for project self-assessment, in order to evaluate the potential impact of the upgrade and potential specification adjustment proposals.
