Brazil Supreme Court Postpones Gambling Ban Ruling to November 3 Hearing
Odaily: Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Luiz Fux will hold a public hearing on November 3 regarding the ban on sports betting and online casinos, and has not yet ruled on whether to suspend the ban. The hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. local time and will focus on the economic impact of the ban.
The ban took effect on October 25, and Brazil's 85 gambling licenses were invalidated as a result. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won re-election on the same day, and the gambling industry organization ANJL called for the resumption of dialogue with the government.
The hearing will have 26 participants, including relevant litigants, government agencies, football clubs, and industry organizations; individual betting operators were not invited. Congress was initially required to vote on the provisional measure by November 23, with the deadline extendable once for up to 60 days. (Bitcoin.com News)
