MetaMask Spun Off as Independent Entity, Consensys Focuses on Institutional Protocols and Ethereum Software

Odaily News: Ethereum software company Consensys has announced the spin-off of its flagship wallet MetaMask into an independent entity, with founder Joe Lubin serving as CEO. The original Consensys has been renamed to a new entity focused on institutional protocols and Ethereum software, led by longtime executive Mike Kriak. Joe Lubin stated that the spin-off is due to MetaMask's consumer business value accumulating at a pace far exceeding other business divisions. MetaMask has evolved from an Ethereum wallet into a platform supporting multiple assets and Mastercard debit card payments, and has launched businesses such as perpetual contracts and prediction markets.
