Multiple hedge funds rumored to have blown up after US tech stock rout; Walleye and Engineers Gate confirm losses and layoffs
Odaily reports: Research account Special Situations posted on X that following the recent sharp decline in US tech stocks, multiple hedge funds have been rumored to have blown up, faced large-scale redemptions, or cut investment managers, involving institutions such as Axebrook, Walleye, Engineers Gate, Lone Pine, some investment teams under Millennium, Verition, and Samlyn.
Among them, two institutions have been confirmed by media: Walleye Capital and Engineers Gate. Walleye Capital, which manages approximately $17 billion, lost 5.9% in October, has dismissed its head of equity long-short strategy Anil Gondi, and plans to return some capital to investors; Engineers Gate has disbanded its Synthesis equity investment team and lost 5.5% in October.
Currently, rumors regarding the remaining institutions have not been verified, and confirmed losses and team adjustments do not equate to fund blow-ups.
