With a 163-year history, U.S. Bank, the fifth-largest commercial bank in the United States, has transferred its self-issued stablecoin across borders on the Stellar public chain
Odaily News: U.S. Bank, the fifth-largest commercial bank in the United States, announced that on September 9 it completed a cross-border payment between entities in North America and Europe using its self-issued U.S. dollar stablecoin USBDC on the public blockchain Stellar. As of June 2026, the bank had $445.4 billion in assets under management.
This transfer was not completed through a closed private ledger. USBDC circulated on an open network while remaining connected to U.S. Bank's existing systems. U.S. Bank CEO Gunjan Kedia said the pilot demonstrated the ability to accelerate global cash management and fund transfers.
U.S. Bank disclosed that its digital asset platform can evaluate stablecoin minting, payment redemption, freezing, and rollback functions. Jamie Walker, the bank's head of digital assets and fund transfers, said this pilot is another step in its digital asset strategy. (Bitcoin.com News)
